NHS treatment

All children are welcome to the Kempston Dental Practice with a parent or a legal guardian and can be seen under the NHS until they reach the age of 18.

Childhood has been identified as the most important period in a persons dental life. Children should visit the dentist regularly, on average once every 6 months. Here at Kempston Dental Practice we aim to prevent dental disease rather than treat it at a later date.

At Kempston Dental Practice we work to a philosophy based upon three principles to help develop a child’s positive attitude towards dental health:

  • Prevention – we advise on a continuing programme of instruction in dental health tailored to the patient’s age.
  • Encouragement – we encourage patients to readily assume greater responsibility for their own dental health as they grow older.
  • Expertise – we employ the highest standard of clinical excellence.

If your child is nervous about going to the dentist, regular visits are essential in helping your child to get used to the surroundings, noises and smells. If your child develops a good relationship with their dentist, it is much easier for the child if treatment does become necessary later on.

Your dentist will  give you advice on diet and how to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride applications and fissure sealants (tooth coloured sealants) are applied to biting surfaces of children's teeth to prevent decay if necessary.

As your child gets older, he/she may need to undergo teeth straightening (orthodontics) this is done in varying styles and at varying ages. We will keep you informed at each dental examination and if we are concerned about the development of your childs teeth then we will refer your son or daughter to an Orthodontist.
